Workable Review: Discover The Scalable Solutions! (September 2024)

Workable Review: Workable is a cloud-based applicant tracking system (ATS) that allows hiring teams to easily find candidates, track applicants, and collaborate. Reasonably priced and extremely easy to use, it has a number of features that will make life easier for both employers and candidates. Workable’s primary market is small and medium-sized businesses, which enables them to coordinate, streamline and ultimately scale their hiring processes. While it’s not the right ATS for everyone, it’s worth getting to know.

Workable: The Good & The Bad

Workable: The Good & The Bad HighTechBlogging

Workable has many positives and few negatives. Below are some of the pros and cons to give you a better idea of whether it might be the right ATS for your needs.

The Good

Ease of Use:

Time and again, users rely on terms such as “intuitive,” “accessible” and “easy to navigate” to describe their experience with Workable. The interface is well-designed and makes it easy to track applicant flow throughout the process. This makes it a great option for companies that haven’t used an ATS before or don’t want to spend a lot of time getting employees up to speed. Workable’s customer service also gets rave reviews from users.

Emphasis on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI):

Workable goes out of its way to help companies find diverse candidates and remove bias from the hiring process. It does this through inclusive job description templates, anonymous screening, standardized questions and scoring tables, and data on candidate demographics. The platform also offers a selection of cognitive and personality tests for candidates to take, providing employers with another source of unbiased data to make fair and unbiased hiring decisions.

The Good HighTechBlogging

Scalability:

Workable emphasizes scalability and for good reason. If you’re a growing company that needs to scale your workforce quickly, Workable makes it easy to accelerate your hiring process without wasting time. It provides a centralized hiring workspace that keeps stakeholders informed and aligned, while user permissions allow you to scale your team without compromising sensitive data. Tasks such as reporting, compliance management, and workflow approval can be easily automated. The result is a more streamlined process that allows your team to optimize their time and easily adapt to changes.

Integrations:

Workable offers users the ability to connect to more than 70 popular recruiting and HR tools, including HRIS, background checks, video, email and calendar, assessment, referral, advertising, and sourcing software. These integrations don’t cover everything for everyone, but enough to offer greater scalability and better customization for most users.

Candidate Search Capabilities:

Workable makes it easy to post jobs on free and paid websites, but it doesn’t stop there. It takes candidate search one step further by using artificial intelligence (AI) to search online public profiles and find the best candidates for your position. Add branded job pages, multilingual options, employee referrals, and even a browser extension that allows you to add potential candidates with one click, and you’ll be in an exceptionally strong position to find the best people for the job.

Reporting & Analytics:

Interested in which platforms generate the most candidates? Or the best candidates? How about measuring the productivity of each hiring team or the average time to hire for each manager? Workable’s reporting and analytics tools let you see what’s working… and what’s not. This kind of data allows you to make better decisions in the future that can save you time and money. Reports are easy to find, read and share, and if you want to dig deeper, integrations with business intelligence tools like Tableau allow users to measure custom KPIs.

The Bad

Minimal Onboarding Capabilities:

Unfortunately, Workable’s usefulness largely ends once an offer letter has been sent. It offers e-signature capabilities, but don’t use it for background checks, benefits administration, payroll, or training programs. For basic paperwork, it’s fine, but employers with a lengthy onboarding process may find Workable a bit lightweight.

Workable offers integration with a selection of HRIS, onboarding, and background check platforms, but if you don’t already use one of them, you may have to move new employees manually.

Limited Search Functions:

Although users can search for candidate resumes, the functionality is limited. Similarly, Workable offers a hashtag system that can be used to tag candidates, so users can easily find categories of candidates, e.g., #salesperson. Unfortunately, there is no way to standardize this, so multiple users may end up creating multiple tags with the same meaning: #sales, #salesrep, #salesrepresentative, etc.

Workable Pricing & Options

Workable offers three service plans. Overall, we would rate their pricing as “in-between” for recruitment software.

It may seem a bit high at first glance, but Workable is very transparent about the cost of its service. They don’t try to hit you with a low sticker price and then add costs.

Many of the other low-cost competitors offer scaled-down versions of their ATS as a basic plan. These versions are missing critical features designed to force you to upgrade. Workable, on the other hand, offers a complete recruiting platform with all of its plans.

Workable Pricing and Options HighTechBlogging

You can purchase the Workable Starter plan for $149 per month. This is a great option for small businesses that only need to hire occasionally. With over 1,000 job description templates, access to over 200 job boards, and AI-based sourcing features, finding qualified candidates is a breeze.

We really liked how Workable makes these features available to companies that hire infrequently.

You won’t have to upgrade to access EEO, OFCCP, and CCPA compliance tools, or take advantage of anonymous screening to promote DEI in your workplace.

At $149 a month, there are certainly cheaper options, but if you only need to fill a handful of vacancies, Workable’s ease of use may be worth it.

The Workable Standard plan lets you recruit for an unlimited number of jobs. Pricing starts at $299 per month, which means that if you have to hire more than three people per month, the Standard plan will be more cost-effective than the Basic plan.

Upgrading to Premier allows hiring managers to create requisitions when they need to hire, follow standard or custom approval workflows, and track requisitions, manage approvals, and review budget data in real-time. The department hierarchy feature makes it easy to manage the hiring structure as the company grows.

Workable offers a free 15-day trial of any plan, so you can get started without any risk.

Workable Offerings

Workable offers a number of features to help employers find and hire the right people. They are divided into 3 categories, each with its own features:

Workable Source & Attract

Workable Source & Attract HighTechBlogging

Arguably Workable’s strength is its ability to help companies find potential candidates. Once a job is created, employers can choose from more than 200 free and premium job boards, such as Indeed, Monster, and ZipRecruiter, as well as social networking sites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn.

Posting jobs is made easier with more than 1,000 SEO-optimized job description templates that you can customize to your needs, and AI Recruiter provides you with a list of top passive candidates for every job posting you make. Employers can also take a more active approach and search for candidates using autosuggestions, keywords, or location searches.

What if you stumble upon a potential candidate while browsing LinkedIn or Twitter? Workable’s Chrome extension allows you to add them to your candidate list with a simple click.

You can also spread the word using one of Workable’s branded job page options. All paid levels have access to an easy-to-create, drag-and-drop job page hosted by Workable with a customizable subdomain.

Higher-level users can take advantage of the advanced job page option, which offers further customization. Companies that already have a jobs page can use Workable’s widget to easily add a branded job listing.

Workable also allows you to harness the power of one of your most valuable resources: your own staff. You can alert current employees to openings in your company and allow them to make recommendations and follow up on any rewards you offer.

Finally, one of Workable’s premium features is texting, which allows users to send messages to candidates directly from the platform or app and track responses in the candidate’s timeline. This feature includes text message templates designed for different stages of the hiring process that can be easily customized.

Workable Evaluate & Collaborate

Workable Evaluate & Collaborate HighTechBlogging

Workable brings teams together through trackable communication, real-time calendar synchronization, a top-notch mobile app, interview kits, and scorecards. Mass emails and templates, self-scheduling interview functionality, and automated offer letters and approvals also help reduce time-to-hire.

One useful feature is pre-hire personality and cognitive assessments, which candidates can complete anywhere, anytime, from any device, and which provide the hiring team with objective criteria they can use to compare candidates.

Another is the one-way video interview option, which allows you to select questions for candidates, who can record their answers on video. The hiring team can then leave and compare comments at any time that suits them. Two-way interviews are also available through integrations with Google Hangouts and Zoom.

Workable Automate & Hire

Workable Automate & Hire HighTechBlogging

Once you’ve found and evaluated qualified candidates, it’s time to start making decisions. Workable makes it easy for you by automating repetitive tasks and personalizing mass communication. For example, you can delay sending disqualification emails and personalize thank you notes.

Offer letter templates, one-way video interviews, approval workflows, and integrated e-signatures on mobile and desktop devices make it easy to get up to speed. And as positions are filled and new openings occur, your hiring performance report is automatically updated, so you can track changes, make adjustments and forecast your hiring budget for the year.

Workable also ensures you comply with local, national, and international data privacy and employment regulations, including GDPR and EEOC/OFCCP.

How Workable Ranks

Workable is a solid option for small and medium-sized businesses, but it lacks some onboarding features and the search functions could be much better. If you want to look at other options, Workable isn’t the only one. There are other applicant tracking systems that are less expensive, more industry-specific, or offer more integrations.
