Divi Builder Review: The Ultimate Tool for Stunning Websites (July 2025)

Divi Builder Review: Divi sets out to do one thing, and do it well: turn WordPress into a site builder. And it succeeds admirably. If you want to build lots of WordPress sites, Divi is absolutely worth the investment of time and money required.

Those looking for a simple, inexpensive way to build their first website should probably look elsewhere first (like our list of the best website builders in 2025).

Divi Overview

divi logo - HighTechBlogging

Divi is a site builder from Elegant Themes that is designed to work within WordPress, just like Elementor.

The idea is that by simply installing the Divi theme (or, alternatively, the Divi Builder plugin), you can drag and drop your way to design greatness.

Unlike many site builders, Divi doesn’t come with a bunch of additional content management or marketing features. The idea is that WordPress can handle all that anyway, so Divi focuses on making web design in WordPress easy. Now, if the application succeeds in that goal, well…that’s what this review is all about.

Is Divi right for you? Is it worth the not-exactly-cheap price up front, considering you’ll already have to pay for hosting your site? Is it worth the time it takes to learn? Or would you be better off going with one of the options on our list of the best website builders in 2025? Let’s find out.

What You’ll Need to Use Divi

A WordPress website. To be more specific, you will need a WordPress site on your own server or pay for the Business plan on WordPress.com, which allows you to install custom themes and plugins. Let me tell you that, in this case, self-hosted WordPress is definitely the cheaper option.

Next, you’ll need to install one of two Divi themes, Divi (a multi-purpose starting point for web layouts) or Extra (a magazine theme). Both of these themes come with the actual site builder built into them, and you don’t need to install anything else.

However, if you want to use the Divi builder with a WordPress theme you already have, you can. The Divi Builder plugin can theoretically work with any theme, although there may be compatibility issues with the way fonts, colors, and other things are designed. But that’s the risk you run when using code from two different developers.

5.0 ⭐ TEMPLATES

Divi calls its web templatesdesign packages“. Basically, a layout package is just a collection of pre-made layouts and designs that can be applied to any page on your site. Because of how this system works, you can actually mix and match design packages if you want to.

I wouldn’t, because the different designs from different packages would not match visually. It would be confusing at best. But you can.

There are currently a total of 195 design packages (free to all customers), including 1,440 individual page layouts. There are them in almost every category, from art to technology to retail to education. In general, the designs are quite good. I have yet to come across one that looks bad.

I built my own demo/test site in about 40 minutes based on a simple design for animal shelters.

5.0 ⭐ FEATURES

Divi is pretty much laser-focused on design functionality and complete control over customizing your layout. So, there’s not much to do here but dive into the most interesting/important features.

The Builder Is Pretty Darned Good

In addition to allowing you to distribute the content almost as you want and drag and drop it, Divi allows you to control it:

Font & text styles: You can set global styles to be used throughout your site and then set new fonts and styles for individual elements if that’s something you want to do.
The color, size, shape of each element: You can even add pseudo-3D transformations to make things, uh, stand out.
Effects: This includes everything from simple shadows and text shadows to visual filters on any of your images.
Animations: Add and customize animations for any element on your page. (My usual warning: don’t overdo it. Too many animations can make your page run much slower).

All of Divi’s design features are made with responsive design in mind, and there’s even a device preview feature, so you can see how your design will look on different screen sizes. I know this is a feature in most site builders now, but it’s nice to see it added to WordPress.

You can also edit multiple parts of your page at once, allowing you to easily change things like size, position, and visual aesthetics of a bunch of content at once.

Finally, there is custom CSS for individual page elements. If you like CSS, you can use it to precisely control every aspect of your design. Personally, I love it when programmer-friendly features are included.

It takes a bit of setup, and there is a learning curve, but you can set up Divi so that it saves you a lot of time in designing new pages.

A Massive Collection of Third-Party Add-ons & Themes

Yes, there is a library of third-party add-ons to extend the functionality of your Divi site, including additional design packages to change its look and feel. In fact, there are currently over 500 add-ons. You can use them to add event calendars, fancier image galleries, under-construction pages, sleeker menus, listings, FAQs, and pretty much anything else you want.

The only drawback? Fewer than 20 are free: for the rest, you’ll have to pay more. The most expensive plugins and themes can cost upwards of $200, though most are much cheaper.

Now, you could use free WordPress plugins to replace any of these, but there’s no guarantee that they’re fully compatible with Divi. Just something to consider. But then, if you develop your own design, theme, or extension for Divi, you can make money with that too.

WooCommerce Integration Galore

If you want to have a WordPress store, the WooCommerce plugin is more fashionable than ever. Why? Because Divi has specific features that allow you to build elegant-looking store pages compatible with WooCommerce.

Simply put, your store doesn’t have to look like all the others. Just make sure people can still find the Buy Now button, and you’re good to go.

Advanced Undo & Revisions

Okay, this may not seem like a big deal to you if you’ve never worked with a design application before, but it’s actually a very important thing. If you accidentally mess something up, you can go back through your entire editing history. All of it.

Have you accidentally deleted half the content of a page in several steps over several hours? Just go back to a previous revision. Such a simple concept and such an important function. It’s more than an undo button; it’s a save my work button.

4.0 ⭐ EASE OF USE

If you’ve ever used a site builder before, then Divi will be familiar to you. If not, then it’s still mostly drag and drop things to where you want them to be. A complete beginner will have to spend some time learning the ropes, but it’s not difficult.

From a more technical standpoint, however, we found that using the actual visual editor can be finicky and imprecise when dragging and dropping things around. It’s easy to make mistakes and lose text formatting, especially when using predesigned layouts from the library.

For example, applying a pre-made layout package (also known as a site template) to your page will not automatically change the Divi theme’s default styles, fonts and colors. In other words, some of your content will look like it belongs in the new design, but some of it may not. You can use a layout to change the global default settings of your website, but it requires more work.

Luckily, there’s a tutorial about it on the Elegant Themes blog. After a little prep work, every page you make and every element you add to those pages with Divi will conform to your new design package.

To be fair to Divi, it’s a whole site builder on top of an already huge CMS platform. Not everything is going to go smoothly. And the advanced Undo feature works, so I can’t complain too much.

Plenty of Documentation & Tutorials

Speaking of tutorials, there’s a whole site of proper documentation (pictured above) in addition to what you can find on the Elegant Themes blog. Given the depth of Divi’s features, I highly recommend browsing through it before attempting to build your website. Honestly? It probably would have saved me some time.

Well, a lot of time. At least ten whole minutes of my life that I could have spent playing with my cat instead of dragging pictures of her across a screen.

Extensive Settings

You don’t have to do everything manually in the drag-and-drop editor. Much of the configuration of your site can be done in the convenient and quite extensive configuration menu. Again, before you try to design your site, browse through this screen and see if there are any time-saving options.

Divi-specific Plugins

So this is a bit specific, but being a Divi customer – on any plan – gives you access to two plugins: Bloom and Monarch.

Bloom is a newsletter subscription plugin for WordPress designed to help you generate leads and generally keep your visitors’ attention longer. It allows you to place the subscription form virtually anywhere on your site, even in popup windows (but don’t do that). It integrates with MailChimp, HubSpot, AWeber and many more.

The Monarch plugin has a much smaller scope. It mainly allows you to add all kinds of Share This social media buttons wherever you want. Simple and useful.

5.0 ⭐ SUPPORT

So my experience with the Divi support team was great. The agents We spoke with were (mostly) prompt, (always) polite, and helpful. However, there is only one way to reach these wonderful people, and that is 24/7 live chat.

Now, you can leave your email address with the team, so if they don’t get back to you right away, you can get answers by email. In most cases, this was not necessary. Most of my interactions happened within minutes, despite the expected response time sometimes being listed as “a few hours”.

My first chat went very well. I asked if there was a free trial, and they responded within minutes, even though it was late (Spoiler: there isn’t, but there is a 30-day money-back guarantee).

Later, I asked if there was a list of third-party themes known to be compatible with the Divi Builder plugin. Unfortunately, as I found out in my email a couple of hours later, there isn’t.

the email response I received

Lastly, I asked about a problem I was having with the actual editor:

Hi, is there any way to apply text styles and colors from one layout package to my entire site permanently? Because right now, when I import a layout and then create new content, the styling is not consistent.

And this is when I found out about the above tutorial on how to convert newly imported layout packages to defaults:

Overall, I am quite happy with the customer service I have received.

4.5 ⭐ PRICING

You can pay the modest price of $89 per year or a one-time fee. That’s a hefty fee, about 2.7 years, but you don’t have to pay again. For lifetime ongoing support, it’s a good deal. But then, you’ll want to be darn sure you like Divi before choosing that option.

When you become a member of Elegant Themes, you get lifetime access to all of the company’s products. In terms of pricing, there’s not much to complain about, except that it can be a bit pricey if you’re running a single site and already have hosting costs to consider.

Cancellation & Refunds

If you have the annual plan, you can cancel it whenever you want. Even better, if you cancel either plan within the first 30 days, you get a full refund with no hassle. All you have to do is request a refund from customer service.

This policy is now common practice in the industry, and as a reviewer who frequently requests refunds, I couldn’t be happier. However, I wish they would offer a proper trial. Investing nearly $100 to test a product, even with the guarantee of a refund, is not feasible for everyone.
