Crazy Domains Review: Discover the Hidden Gems of Their Feature-Packed Hosting Plans
Can This Australian Web Host Compete with the Big Brands in Hosting?

Crazy Domains hosts the websites of more than 1.5 million customers, with a network of servers and data centers in the southern hemisphere. But unless you’re willing to subscribe for ten years at a time, it’s not the cheapest host in the world.
Worse, it faces stiff competition from large global competitors with extensive features and super-low prices. When you compare Crazy Domains to its cheaper global competitors, is it really worth spending more? For ten years?
For context, the Internet as we know it was created almost three decades ago, so a ten-year commitment equates to roughly a third of the current Internet lifetime, the length of the entire Smallville TV series and the average conversation with Bob from accounting. That’s a big commitment, is what I mean.
Below we can see a map of the entire Crazy Domains network. It has data centers in Perth and Sydney and one in the UK. It also has servers in Belgium, the USA, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore. Do all these servers make a difference? The only way to find out was to try it out for myself.

I set up a real, working website on Crazy Domains Economy’s shared WordPress hosting plan to test their speed, support, uptime and more. I wanted to see if their claims of fast load times were true, and to compare the quality of their hosting and support with brands both in Australia and globally.
While the loading speeds I saw were pretty incredible, there are missing features you definitely need to know about – especially when you factor in the high prices.
Read on to find out if Crazy Domains is the right hosting for you or if you’re better off with one of the big names in web hosting, such as Hostinger, which offers excellent performance at a bargain price.
Good WordPress Features, but No Free SSL
Crazy Domains has two types of shared hosting: WordPress hosting and “vanilla” shared hosting, where you can install any other CMS (content management system) you like. I contracted the economy WordPress hosting plan.
WordPress plans vary by storage space and the number of websites you can host. The Economy plan is limited to one site but gives you 10 GB of disk space, which is enough for thousands of images (I recommend photos of Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman if you want to stay local).
All of their shared hosting plans offer unlimited bandwidth, which is quite unusual. VentraIP is the only other Australian host I’ve used that makes the same offer.

Crazy Domains claims that all of its websites are hosted on energy-efficient servers to make them more environmentally friendly, resulting in a 16% reduction in energy usage. Many hosts, like GreenGeeks, are completely carbon neutral, so it’s no big deal, but it’s a step in the right direction.
WordPress nuts: get ready to get excited. You’re going to love these features.

Summarizing the most important:
And there are more things I like when I dig a little deeper.
Security & Backups are Easy
Crazy Domains does weekly backups. Now, I would prefer to see daily backups, but on the cheap plans, daily backups are rare.
There is also a backup wizard that you can use to create a backup on demand, or restore a backup. It is very easy to use, and you have the option to download the backup to your computer if you want to archive it locally. There is also a one-click restore feature that makes it easy to restore a file you accidentally trashed.

Crazy Domains says it will monitor your website 24/7 for any security issues, and also has a plugin, WP Fort Knox, that detects malware. Mind you, no gold reserves.
There’s an Optimisation Wizard, Harry!
Crazy Domains has an optimization area that allows you to control the compression applied to your files. File compression can help your website load faster, so that’s something you want.
Having this level of control is unusual. I liked being able to control it myself, rather than having to contact support to change the settings. You can choose Compress All or select specific types of content to compress. If compression causes any problems on your site, select the Uncompress option to disable the feature.

Cache Blaster
Crazy Domains has its own caching technology to speed up your site load times. It’s called Cache Blaster. When I tested the load speeds, I found Crazy Domains‘ results to be very impressive. More on this later in the review.
With all that good stuff out of the way, it’s time to address the missing features. This is the most important one: no free SSL. This, to me, is a passion killer. Virtually every major website hosting provider offers Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates for free, so the fact that Crazy Domains doesn’t is mind-boggling.
Without an SSL certificate, your website cannot serve secure pages. In some browsers, your website will set the “Not Secure” flag and display a warning in the URL bar. Your Google ranking could also be affected. That’s not good for business.
If you want to make sure your site is secure with HTTPS, you’ll have to buy a separate SSL certificate, and Crazy Domains SSL certificates aren’t cheap.
Here are some other missing features I noticed:

Connecting or Buying a Domain is Easy Enough

Do you have a site hosted elsewhere? CrazyDomains will do all the work of moving it, if that’s what you want. This service is provided free of charge with the purchase of any hosting plan. It’s actually a pretty standard feature for most mid-range to larger hosts, but it’s always a nice feature to see.
As a user, it’s one less thing to think about.
One-Click WordPress Install
After registering, you will need to access the hosting control panel to install WordPress. There is a one-click installer that makes it really easy.
Just fill in the form and check or uncheck the features and settings you want.
The installation process is very simple and saves a lot of time compared to manual WordPress installations.
Crazy Domains’ Loading Speeds are Awesome
I had a real website up and running with Crazy Domains for three months. I tested their loading speeds from different locations so you can see the actual performance data.
As I mentioned, I was very impressed with the loading speeds. Crazy Domains is fast. Insanely fast. In fact, it was the fastest Australian host I tested. I recorded an uptime of 99.983% for a month, which is not bad at all. So, overall, I’m pretty happy with the performance.
Read on to see the detailed results of my various tests, or fast forward to see the problems I had with the Crazy Domain support team.
Before I started my testing, I contacted the support team and asked them if they could help me optimize my site. Although the support agent didn’t help me, he did give me a link to some optimization tips from WordPress.org. Anyway.

After implementing the recommended changes, I tested my site using GTmetrix, Sucuri Load Time Tester and UptimeRobot.
The site I set up was located at www.autonomous-shoes-australia-g.com. To avoid any manipulation by the host, I cancelled the hosting plan. See the testing methods I used in this article.
GTmetrix
Crazy Domains is the fastest Australian host I have tested, taking as little as 0.7s to load my website. Yes, it’s not just fast. It’s consistently, unbelievably fast.
I chose the Sydney server location in GTmetrix, which means it loaded my site as if it was in that location. Crazy Domains achieved a full load time of between 0.7s and 1.9s across nine tests. For context, Relentless Hosting’s fastest speed was 1.1s, and NetRegistry’s fastest speed was 3.3s.

My home page is 1.4MB in size. You can see in the Total Page Size that Crazy Domains is applying compression to get it under 1MB. When it comes to speed, this type of compression is key to getting a fast full load time.
Sucuri Time Load Tester
After this, I wanted to see how my real test site loaded from locations around the world. This is the stage where we will see if Crazy Domains‘ Australian data centers make a real difference in speed in the southern hemisphere.
Again, I ran this test nine times to make it as fair as possible and the results were clear. My site loaded from all data centers in 2.5 seconds or less.
This screenshot shows the average results. By the way, I saw consistently good load times from Singapore and India:

The best speed was 0.6s in Singapore, although the average was around 0.8s. It is clear that Crazy Domains has an excellent infrastructure in Asia, and these speed tests prove it.
European locations, such as France and the Netherlands, performed the worst in our tests. But let’s put this in context. Even the slowest speeds were 2.4s or less, and you can get better speeds for European locations by using a European host like Hostinger. Still, if you don’t expect many visitors from Europe, Crazy Domains is an excellent choice for Australia.
You’ll notice that the Australian data center was unresponsive during this test. Don’t worry; that’s just a firewall issue that I see quite often with Sucuri. It won’t affect your live website.
UptimeRobot
Crazy Domains has a 99.9% uptime guarantee. How did my real website do? Well, I tracked it on UptimeRobot to see what the actual uptime would be.
The uptime was 99.983% for one month. That’s good, but not the best.
The last reported downtime is January 13 for one minute. (Actually, the uptime reports are tracked based on the frequency of the ‘ping’ that UptimeRobot sends, which is one every minute – so the actual downtime could have been less than a minute).

Quick and Friendly, but Not 100% Accurate
I thoroughly tested Crazy Domains support so you can judge the quality for yourself. Overall, I was impressed with the response times, and everyone I contacted was very happy to help, although the agents made a few mistakes.
Let’s start with the basics. Crazy Domains offers 24/7 support, 365 days a year. It offers support by phone, live chat, email and social media.

First of all, I have to commend Crazy Domains for calling me immediately after I finished registering. The agent insisted on personally welcoming me and helping me with any problems I had to begin with. The only other host that proactively called me during my hosting period was iiNet.
So far, so good.
While I was a Crazy Domains customer, I checked the live chat at random intervals to see the availability of the support team. There were times when there was no one to answer questions, and the chat form turned into an email form. This is one of the disadvantages of choosing a slightly smaller host than the big brands; you rely on a smaller team, so there are fewer people to cover support.
When the operators are around, the response time is instantaneous, and the agents I’ve spoken to are polite, friendly and helpful. Before I even signed up, I wanted to see how Crazy Domains‘ support department was coping with a non-urgent pre-sales question and a second question about my website configuration.
Unfortunately, the answers I got were not entirely accurate.
First, I contacted the sales chat team to ask if I could have a free hosting trial. The operator should have asked me what plan I wanted. Instead, I was offered a website builder trial.

The website builder plan is the only one with a free trial, but it is not a “real” hosting plan. It is also more expensive than the “real” hosting plans. This was not the response I was expecting; it could have led me to sign up for the wrong package.
Accidentally selling the wrong product is certainly one way to make a first impression.
Next, I asked them about the hosting money-back guarantee. This is important if there is no free trial; you need to know that there is a way out if the accommodation is not right for you.
The operator told me that Crazy Domains‘ money-back guarantee is valid for 30 days. This answer is totally wrong. It is valid for 60 days. The operator corrected his answer, but only after I pointed it out to him.
Maybe the support agents work with more than one hosting company? Or maybe it was a mix?

To the credit of the support team: they were fast, friendly and did not pass me from one department to another to get answers. The quality of English could have been better, but sufficient.
Compared to other Australian hosts, Crazy Domains’ pricing is high.
The shortest plan is particularly expensive. Discounts apply when contracting for 1, 2, 3 or 10 years.
If you’re crazy enough to contract for a decade, the price is really good. But is it a good idea? In my opinion, those super-cheap rates are not a realistic point of comparison because 10 years is too long to commit. Consider your cash flow, in addition to the savings. Keep in mind that your website, your business, and your web hosting could change a lot in 10 years.
Crazy Domains accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, PayPal, AliPay, UnionPay, and zipPay, which is an interest-free credit option. Once I paid, I received an automated email with all the details of my plan right away, so the cost was easy to understand.
Finally, let me go back to the 60-day money-back guarantee. If you request a refund within that 60-day period, you will still be billed for the time you used the hosting plan prior to cancellation.
So, is it really a money-back guarantee? Not really.
Most of the big brand name hosts offer a more generous refund policy where they offer a full refund, not just a partial refund if you cancel within the first month. I have not found any other accommodation that limits their money-back guarantee in this way. Personally, it doesn’t seem very fair to me, so it’s important to keep this caveat in mind.
Canceling Your Hosting
Crazy Domains hosting is very easy to cancel.
First, I decided to turn off auto-renewal (You don’t have to, but I like to make sure I don’t get billed again in the future). In the Profile area, go to Payment Settings, and turn off Auto Renew.

Next, click Web Hosting at the top of the page, and then expand the plan you want to cancel. Click Confirm deletion and you are done.

Conclusion
Crazy Domains web hosting gave me incredible page load times. That’s the most important thing. While expensive on a short contract, you might be willing to pay the premium to get those fast load times. I would be too.
There are also some pretty cool WordPress features, like automatic updates and a staging server.
However, I’d like to see free SSL on shared hosting plans to really bring the features up to the same level as their stronger competitors. And I wish they would change the money-back guarantee to be more honest.
Hostinger gives you more for your money with much better support, but their closest data center is in Singapore. If you’re specifically looking for a host with an Australian data center, compare Crazy Domains to Relentless Hosting, the second fastest host I’ve tested, or VentraIP, which has even better features.
FAQ’s
Do I need a host with data centers in Australia?
If your website is targeting the Australian market, you should choose hosting with data centers in or near Australia. This will give your site visitors a better experience by reducing the distance the data has to travel to reach them. Crazy Domains has servers on four continents, including data centers in Perth and Sydney.
What is the cheapest way to host a website?
There are some good free web hosts in 2026, but you are better off with an inexpensive shared hosting plan. Shared hosting allows you to use shared resources on a shared server for a relatively low price. It is a great option for beginners, blogs and startups.
You can get shared hosting from Crazy Domains, but you’ll find lower prices and better value with Hostinger’s shared hosting plans.
Do all Crazy Domains hosting plans include a free domain name?
From the name, you’d think that Crazy Domains gives you a free domain name with your hosting plan, but that’s not the case, even on their ten-year plans. You can pay to register a domain name with Crazy Domains, of course.
You’ll probably have to pay for a domain name with most plans anyway, so you might want to take a look at the lowest prices for our top 10 web hosts for 2026.
Does Crazy Domains have cPanel?
Crazy Domains shared hosting and VPS hosting plans include the cPanel control panel. You also get root access with VPS hosting.
